
IPL 2021 Phase 2: Sharjah sanctions six new pitches ahead of IPL, T20 World Cup – Sharjah Cricket Stadium is gearing up to host IPL 2021 phase 2. The officials of the stadium have announced that Sharjah will have new upgrades ahead of the IPL 2021. New pitches, Fit Capital gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, steam, and sauna area will be built in the Stadium. Sharjah is scheduled to host 10 IPL matches.
IPL 2021 phase 2 is all set to take place in UAE from September 19 with Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah hosting the matches of the cash-rich league.

“Sharjah’s atmosphere or as we like to call it the ‘Sharjah magic’ is what differentiates the stadium from any other cricketing venue in the UAE. This was no more evident than at last year’s edition when we played host to some of the most exciting moments of the IPL,” said Khalaf Bukhatir, CEO of Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
New upgrades in Sharjah Cricket Stadium
- 6 New pitches – 4 Playing pitches and 2 practice pitches
- Fit Capital gymnasium
- Indoor swimming pool
- Sauna area
“In recent years we have invested in all elements to ensure that players and spectators alike have an even better match day experience. We still don’t know if we are welcoming cricket fans into the stadium this IPL, but we are certainly ready and looking forward to hosting some world-class cricket in a world-class, safe and secure environment,” Khalaf Bukhatir added.
The pitches and gymnasium will be built ahead of the IPL while the indoor swimming pool and Sauna Area will take time. There are also 11 new VIP suites, a new VIP Grand dining area and improved hospitality facilities at the top tier of the Pavilion end.
IPL’s UAE league
Sharjah will host the first game of IPL 2021 phase 2 on September 24 where Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. Other than the league stage matches, Sharjah will also be hosting Qualifier 2 (October 11) and the Eliminator (October 13)
There will be a lot of cricket in near future in UAE as BCCI will also be hosting ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman from October 17 to November 14, 2021.
