Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Moeen Ali while Ollie Pope continued to add important runs as England went past India’s total on Day 2 of the 4th Test at The Oval. England were placed at 241/7 after 72 overs, leading by 50 runs with Pope and Chris Woakes in the middle. Earlier, pacer Mohammed Siraj dismissed Jonny Bairstow straight after Lunch while Umesh Yadav picked the wickets of Craig Overton and Dawid Malan early in the morning session to put the home team on the backfoot. Pope and Bairstow stitched an important sixth wicket partnership as they hit a flurry of boundaries to lead their team’s recovery. Yadav started from where he left off yesterday when he claimed skipper Joe Root’s all-important wicket yesterday. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a fiery spell late in the day to remove both England openers, Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns in an over. After being sent in to bat by Root, India had a horrific start to their innings but were saved by a fifty from Kohli and a blistering knock by Shardul Thakur, who smashed the fastest half-century in a Test in England to bail out the visitors. Shardul hit three sixes and seven boundaries en route to his 36-ball 57 as India posted 191. (LIVE SCORECARD)
