Stumps, Day 3 (England 53/3)
Another day, another impressive show from the Indians as they set a massive target of 482 before England and then picked up three wickets upfront, including those of the openers. The hosts still have two days to dismiss England but expect them to seal the deal tomorrow itself. Local lad Ashwin, once again, the star of the show, this time with the bat as he top-scored with a fabulous 106.
India’s day. England need to climb a mountain over the next two days, and it’s almost impossible. Expect the game to be over by the first two sessions tomorrow. Ashwin’s century the highlight of a superb day for India. Axar then got two wickets, while Ashwin got one as England have lost 3 already. Can they get a special knock from Root or Stokes? Or will it be Ashwin and Axar tomorrow?
A sensational day for India as Ravichandran Ashwin mesmerizes his home ground with the willow! After putting England into shambles with a fifer in the first innings, Ashwin was out to bat today with Virat Kohli as India lost its big guns early in the first session to England’s spinners.
But as the spinners began to deteriorate with their line and length, Kohli and Ashwin turned on the heat on England with an electrifying crowd behind them. Post Kohli’s dismissal, it was Ashwin all the way as he quelled the demons on the pitch en route an epoch-making fifth Test ton in his homeground.
England began its record chase on fine ground before Axar Patel and Ashwin found their rhythm once again. India heads into Day 4 with its head held high after a clinical all-round performance to make it level before the trip to Ahmedabad.
