
French Open 2021: Daniil Medvedev defeats Cristian Garin to book his place in the quarterfinals – World No.2 Russia’s Daniil Medvedev has defeated 23rd ranked Chile’s Cristian Garin in the fourth round of the French Open. He dropped just two points and one respectively in the first two sets. Garin tried to fight back in the last set but eventually ended up losing 5-7. It was the third meeting between them, Medvedev now leads the head to head by 2-1. The 25-year-old is in the quest for his 1st grand slam title.
Garin, whose five singles titles have all come on clay, needed medical attention for problems with his right arm and neck before the third set and returned to the court an improved player, breaking Medvedev for the first time in the match.
Daniil got to the 4th round after thumping Alexander Bublik 6-3 6-3 7-5, Tommy Paul 3-6 6-1 6-4 6-3 and Reilly Opelka 6-4 6-2 6-4.
